Signs

The Town of Truckee Road Division works continuously to repair or replace existing signs that are downed or damaged. It is not uncommon for winter conditions to take a toll on signs around Town. Please report downed or damaged signs through SeeClickFix (Sign Missing/Damaged).

Citizens often inquire about installing brand new signs, such as traffic calming signs, stop signs, or crosswalk signs to name a few. Town ordinance limits the number of signs allowed to avoid sign pollution. However, requests for new signs will be routed to the Engineering Division for review and can be submitted through SeeClickFix (Sign Request).

Streetlights and Signal Lights

The signal lights at major intersections are maintained by Caltrans. This is because most of the light signaled intersections in Town include Highways 89 and 267, which are Caltrans maintained roads.  The Town has an agreement with Caltrans for all intersection signal lights to be maintained by Caltrans. For traffic signal light requests, you may reach out to Caltrans directly, or submit a request through SeeClickFix (Traffic Signal Light).  

For requests about all other streetlights on Town maintained roads, please submit requests through SeeClickFix (Streetlight). 

Graffiti Abatement Program

The Town of Truckee has an aggressive Graffiti Abatement Program.  The Road Division will remove graffiti from public roadways and The Facilities Division will remove graffiti from Town trails, bus shelters, and other Town maintained property.  We appreciate the community informing us of any graffiti. Submit observations through SeeClickFix (Graffiti).

The Drainage Maintenance Program includes cleaning and maintaining drainage infrastructure along public roadways and within the Town's right-of-ways to ensure proper drainage function. Town may perform drainage work between properties where drainage easements exist. Drainage infrastructure includes inlets, ditches, and culverts.

Culverts installed under residential driveways are the responsibility of the homeowner to maintain. Businesses with culverts under their driveways, or homeowners who have culverts within drainage easements (other than the driveway easements) can call the Town of Truckee Department of Public Works for determination of responsibility. Drainage ditches should not be landscaped.

Town of Truckee Department of Public Works, in conjunction with the Truckee Fire District, maintains the Town of Truckee right-of-way.

The goal of the Town of Truckee Brushing and Chipping program is to enhance fire suppression, eliminate root growth that will damage the road structure, maintain safe sight distances, prevent drain blockage, clear right-of-way hazards, and prepare snow storage areas adjacent to the road surfaces.

Crews remove thin brush, trees, and limbs from roadsides, ditches, and drainage easements in accordance with criteria approved by the Town of Truckee Town Council. Town Staff works hard to minimize the impact of chipping and brushing operations from both a convenience and aesthetic point of view.
