Protect Yourself from Unhealthy Air Quality
- During wildfire season, check daily air pollution forecasts in your area. The color-coded forecasts can let you know when the air is unhealthy in your community. Check with trusted sources of information for the most up to date assessments, including the Air Now website.
- Limit outdoor activities and avoid exercising outdoors when the air quality is unhealthy. When the air quality index (AQI) is high, walk indoors or use indoor exercise equipment and limit children's play outside.
Vulnerable Populations
Regions that are miles away from fires can have poor air quality. Some community members are more at-risk than others:
- Children
- Women who are pregnant
- Older adults
- People with existing lung or heart conditions
Check in with the people in your life who may be more vulnerable to health impacts during poor air quality events.
