Considering starting or expanding a business in Truckee?

Understand zoning requirements and permits with OpenCounter

If you're thinking about starting a business in Truckee, our OpenCounter and ZoningPortal tools are designed for you.

OpenCounter asks the right questions, in the right order, so business owners see the requirements, fees, and processing time that will apply to their planned use and location.

ZoningPortal is a simplified tool that shows where a particular use is allowed. Just enter the type of use and the address, and the tool will tell you whether the use is allowed. Click the "Learn More" button and you can see additional information on the zoning for the property.

Building a successful company is a long journey. In Truckee, we use the OpenCounter tool to help entrepreneurs get their businesses up and running more quickly and easily by providing an online interface to the permitting process at Town Hall.

Our OpenCounter tool also collects metrics on new business development activities to inform the Town's economic development strategies, including which neighborhoods or districts have the most commercial activity and what kinds of businesses are starting.

We set up OpenCounter and ZoningPortal to help us establish a better working relationship with new small business owners. We hope that by offering an intuitive and beautiful interface to Town Hall for small business owners, we can help entrepreneurs feel that the Town is a partner and ally in their journey to opening day.
