Sister Cities Committee

The Sister Cities Committee meets at Town Hall on the third Monday of each month from 5:00-6:30 pm.

Appointed in July 2018, the Committee provides leadership for the new Truckee Sister Cities program.

During 2018 the Committee is developing sister city selection criteria and researching and reaching out to potential sister cities. The Committee will then recommend a first sister city to Town Council. Town Council will be responsible for approving the Sister City partnership.

Following sister city selection, the Committee will take the lead in creating long-term relationships and communication channels and collaborating with our partner community and local community groups to plan collaborative or exchange opportunities.  For access to all agendas and minutes please click on the provided link.

What is a Sister City?

A Sister City relationship is a long-term partnership established between two communities, usually in different countries.  Thematic areas for a Sister City partnership could include educational, art or cultural exchanges, government, business, trade, or philanthropy.

Does Truckee Have a Sister City?

Not yet!  On May 8, 2018, Town Council directed staff to pursue the first steps of becoming a sister city. The Town will be working with interested community members to develop a sister city program and seek out a sister city.

Sister City relationships need not be exclusive. Once an initial sister city partnership is well-established, the Committee could recommend adding additional Sister Cities.
