Special Events Policy
The Town of Truckee continuously works with many special event promoters, event sponsors, community members and organizations in assisting in planning for public safety, traffic, and crowd control at special events and activities that promote the social and economic well-being of Truckee.
In February 2018 Town Council adopted an updated special events policy document to guide promoters in planning a successful and safe event. For a detailed description of this process please see below.

Special Events Policy Update
On February 13, 2018 Town Council adopted the updated Special Events Policy, concluding the Town's policy update process.

In 2015 The Truckee Town Council directed staff to form a stakeholders group for the purpose of defining goals and objectives of managing special events within Truckee and receive input for possible revisions to the Special Events Ordinance and Policy (Town Code Section 9.05.010E). The goal of the stakeholders committee was to ensure that feedback from all sectors of the community was considered. Through a series of three workshops, stakeholders explored issues associated with a new special events ordinance, and provided input to the Town Council. Issues discussed by the committee included what type of special events are important to Truckee; how to define special events; discussing the role of events have in terms of social, cultural, and economic impacts; and the application process.
In January 2017 staff received direction from Town Council to re-initiate the updates to Town special events policy, started in 2015, and to jointly host a community forum with the Truckee Chamber of Commerce. On March 16th, 2017 the Town of Truckee and Truckee Chamber of Commerce hosted a community workshop on special events and quality of life at Truckee Town Hall. Attendees broke into a small group activity to discuss and rank a list of special event effects, both benefits and challenges. On May 9, 2017 Staff presented to Town Council a summary of the Community Workshop Results and Council provided staff direction to draft updates to the Town's Special Events Policy and Municipal Code incorporating themes gathered from the stakeholder group and community workshop.
In February 2018 Town Council adopted the updated Special Events Policy and adopted Ordinance 2018-02 updating Chapter 9.05 Expressive Activities and Special Events and Chapter 13.02 Special Uses in the Right-of-Way of Town Municipal Code.
