Hazardous waste contains components or chemicals considered hazardous to the environment, animal life, and humans.  It is illegal to dispose of these materials in your garbage! These items must be diverted from landfills and waste processing facilities. Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD) provides residents and commercial customers the opportunity to properly dispose of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) on specially scheduled collection events.  All events occur at the Eastern Regional Landfill and require an appointment to participate.

-contaminated motor oil
-contaminated gasoline
-brake fluid
-solvents
-automotive chemicals
-insecticides
-herbicides
-poisons
-drain opener
-ammonia
-pharmaceuticals
-syringes in rigid plastic containers

Unlawful dumping or depositing of oil or any other hazardous material is prohibited by law under California Penal code section, 374.8(b) and is punishable by imprisonment or fine up to $10,000.
