An Update on the Town Manager Process

Between July 1-10, 2020 an online survey was available to ask our community about the top qualities that they would value in a Town Manager. This was also given to Town employees for their feedback. A community virtual workshop also took place on July 8, 2020 as an additional platform to gain community input. We appreciate the time and effort that everyone took to participate and share their views. The information gained is being consolidated and shared with the Town Council as they move through the process.

Town Manager Recruitment Process 2020 It is noted that the employee and the community survey results were parallel in competencies desired. The following were the most desired traits for a candidate, in no particular order:

  • Team Orientation/Leadership
  • Ethics/Integrity/Honesty
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Solutions Oriented/Problem Solver
  • Collaborative
  • Community and External Awareness
  • Strategic Thinking
  • Accountability – self and others
  • Listening Skills

The Town of Truckee is looking for a Town Manager who is genuine, an empowering and respectful leader, who never leads with an ego, puts forth creative solutions, cares deeply about the community and people, and embraces what makes Truckee unique. The ideal candidate will also have experience serving a municipal organization and have a demonstrated understanding of municipal budgeting and core services, including public works, human resources, planning, economic development, public safety, planning, community development, housing, risk management, information technology, emergency management, etc. Our Town Manager will support our committed staff, engaged community and guide our steps on the road ahead, while embodying the “Truckee Way” – and our employee’s values of integrity, teamwork, accountability, commitment and excellence.

 An outline of the next steps for recruitment are below:

  • A short list will be determined in a closed session with Council on September 2, 2020.
  • Interviews will take place on September 14 & 15, 2020.
