Town of Truckee Summer Special Event applications due January 15th
In accordance with a new policy, event organizers for certain special events taking place in Truckee during summer 2019 are encouraged to submit their Application and Application Fee prior to January 15th in order to be considered for a limited number of special event openings.
Earlier this year the Town concluded a multi-year update of its special events policy to better address community benefits and impacts from special events. As a result of these updates, beginning in 2019 the Town will be instituting a cap on the total number of events that take place during peak season AND have a traffic impact. Please see below for details:
Summer Peak Season: Third Friday in June through Labor Day. For 2019 the dates are June 21 – September 2.
Traffic Impact Event: An event that will require traffic control measures, including: a road closure on an arterial or primary roadway; traffic control points; or personnel required to implement a traffic control plan.
Event Cap: 17 Events. For multi-day events, each event day is counted as one “Event.”
Priority Deadline: January 15, 2019, 5:00 pm
Application Process for Peak Season Traffic Impact Events:
• Event organizer will submit Part 1 of the Application and the Application Fee by the priority deadline.
• Staff will review all applications received prior to the priority deadline at one time. If the number of applications exceeds the summer peak season cap of 17, each application will be evaluated based on selection factors found in the Special Events Policy. If the number of applications is below the cap then each application will receive a summer peak season traffic impact event opening, provided each application meets the standard permitting requirements.
• If selected, event organizer will be required to submit Part 2 of the Application a minimum of seventy-five days prior to the event date.
• Applications received after the priority deadline will only be considered if spots remain.
Application Process for all other Special Events:
• Submit full Application and Application Fee a minimum of seventy-five days prior to the event date.
