TRUCKEE POLICE EXPLORER PROGRAM

The
Truckee Police Explorer POST 801 is
sponsored by the Truckee Police Department.
The program is designed to educate and
involve young men and women in police
operations to expose them to all aspects of
the law enforcement profession, whether they
enter the field of law enforcement or not.
The
Police Explorers are volunteers between the
ages of 14 and 20 years old. They receive
training in all areas of police work
including building searches, handling
domestic violence calls, taking police
reports and talking to witnesses. They also
received scenario training in the areas of
officer safety techniques and traffic
accident investigations.
We
presently have six explorers in our program
who have contributed over 350 hours of
service to our community this past year.
Activities outside of riding along with an
officer have included various community
events such as traffic control for the 4th
of July, Tour DeNez, and many other
functions.
Explorers have the opportunity to broaden
their understanding of law enforcement and
related professions. The explorers obtain
firsthand knowledge of the challenges and
job skills that are required to be a police
officer. In addition to gaining a working
knowledge of police work, participants have
the opportunity to give themselves to their
community.
