CITIZENS ACADEMY

The Academy is designed to encourage increased understanding of police operations.
-
Enhance awareness of the Police Department's roles, capabilities and limitations.
-
Develop realistic expectations of Department response.
-
Bridge the gap between the community and the Police Department by building trust, respect, and a sense of cooperation
-
Provide a forum for police-citizen exchange and dialogue.
The Academy provides community members with an inside look at local law enforcement. During Academy training, students will be introduced to a wide range of topics. The 11-week course is designed to provide citizens with an overview of the Police Department's function and operational procedures. Academy classes are taught by civilian and sworn police personnel of the Truckee Police Department. Participants will have the opportunity to meet many members of the Department.
The Truckee Police Department offers one or two Academy sessions during the year. Classes are held on one evening a week from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. for eleven consecutive weeks.
