Q: What is the Sales Tax rate and who gets the taxes?
A:

The Sales and Use tax rate in the Town of Truckee is 8.125%.

The tax rate is broken down as follows:  State of California 7.5%; Nevada County Library .125%; Truckee Measure V .5%

Q: Is the sales tax rate the same for all Truckee mailing addresses?
A:
No.  8.125% is the tax rate for addresses within Nevada County and the Town of Truckee's city limits. 
Q: If I rent my property out on a short term basis what do I need to do?
A:
If you rent a room in your home, a rental property or your whole home for 30 days or less you need to contact the Town and register your property for Transient Occupancy.  A 10% tax must be paid on all rents collected.  (If you rent your room for $100 per night the renter will pay you $110.00 - the tax is $10.00)  For more information about the law governing Transient Occupancy and how to register, click here.
