The Town of Truckee contracts with Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal for the collection, hauling
and processing of commercial and residential solid waste and recycling in Truckee. In addition, Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal operates the Eastern Regional Landfill where residents can drop off Solid Waste, Recycling, Electronics, Residential Tires, Fluorescent Light Bulbs, Batteries, Household Hazardous Waste, Universal Waste, and Inert Materials.

ERL is open to received trash Monday – Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Residential Accounts
All Truckee residential parcels are billed for Solid Waste Service via a Special Assessment placed on the Nevada County Property Taxes. The fee allows residents to place one 32-gallon can of trash out per week (13 cans per 13 week quarter) and unlimited recycling in blue bags. In addition, the rate also provides for the collection and processing of yard waste material in approved green bags. The Green Bag for Green Waste Program allows residents to place out four tied green bags per week year-round. Eastern Regional Landfill Transfer Station
ERL is located on Cabin Creek Road off HWY 89 south about three miles south of Truckee.
Accepted for FREE Recycling:
- Cardboard
- Household Batteries
- Fluorescent Lamps and Bulbs
- Empty Aerosol Cans
- Mercury Containing Items i.e. Ballast
- Non- contaminated used motor oil and filters
- Undamaged Car and vehicle batteries
- Electronics: small and large i.e. cell phones, TV’s, Computer monitors and parts.

Cardboard ONLY drop-off
Loose cardboard left at the curb is considered trash and is charged accordingly. Cardboard shall either be bagged in blue bags or dropped off utilizing the free cardboard only dumpsters at the Nevada County Sheriff's Station located at 10879 Donner Pass Road or Truckee Town Hall located at 10183 Truckee Airport Road. There are two self service bins at both locations available for residential use. Additional can service and extra trash is charged directly by Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal.
Household Hazardous Waste
