MARTIS VALLEY QUARRY 5-YEAR REVIEW PLANNING COMMISSION HEARING

The Martis Valley Quarry 5-Year Review application will be continued to the June 20, 2017 Planning Commission hearing. Following the initial hearing on February 21, 2017, staff identified that due to the amount of information requested, the application would take some time to return to the Planning Commission and was tentatively scheduled for May 16, 2017. Staff has gathered all necessary information from Teichert, Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District, and Bollard Acoustical Consultants. Staff is still waiting for information from the Lahontan Water Quality Control Board but anticipates the information will be received by the end of the week. The information is public and available to be viewed.

At the request of Teichert, staff has agreed to continue the hearing until June 20th. Teichert would like to hold a neighborhood meeting and implement some changes to mining operation that they believe will help minimize the odor and noise impacts prior to a Planning Commission hearing. The neighborhood meeting will allow the residents of Truckee and adjacent property owners to voice any concerns or requests directly to Teichert. The meeting will take place this Thursday, May 11th at the Best Western Plus Truckee Tahoe Hotel at 6:00pm. The Best Western is located at 11331 Brockway Road. The changes to be implemented by Teichert may take some time before those changes become noticeable. By continuing the hearing to June, it will allow the adjacent property owners to identify to the Planning Commission if those changes are working.

When the Martis Valley Quarry 5-Year Review Application is scheduled for a hearing, a mailed notice to property owners within 500 feet will go out, a notice of the scheduled hearing will be posted on the Town’s website, and a display ad will be posted in the Sierra Sun ten days before the hearing. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact Kirk Skierski at (530) 582-2927 or at kskierski@townoftruckee.com.
